I have an entire laundry basket full of clothes I want to alter/tailor/fix and I felt like today was the day to tackle it. but I got kinda overwhelmed and instead of finishing two or three things I started six and finished one. I'd get working on something and then an idea would come to me about something else so I'd switch to that only to repeat the process again. any tips on how to focus? anyway. I'm happy to have one thing done.
my one finished product. a skirt that used to be a really terrible dress.
aren't these the best wildflowers ever? JG picked them during a run along the Bonneville Shoreline last night. he says he didn't arrange them but I don't know if I believe it. I mean, look how they're tied together with grass.
our favorite pizza dough, almost ready. pizza party tonight!
oh, we also got a rug and it's sugar's favorite spot to sleep. and all day I've been singing Butterfly (you know by Crazy Town) to Sugar. I actually can't believe I haven't been singing it since the day we got her.

our house
since our place is tiny, our stuff is kinda all smooshed in. but that's not so bad cause it makes me not want to buy anything and crowd the place even more. here's some of my favorites from around the joint:
1. our tablecloth is now our bedroom door2. still finding uses for all the butterflies from our wedding
3. finally getting to use that chandelier after five years
4. a sunny spot
5. glass tile in the kitchen
6. a spot for some of my fabric
7. I still love that dresser
8. framed stuff
9. that shelf being chock-full of books
10. chairs in desperate need of some love
11. sugar following me around all day long
12. wood floors and a rug
13. a spot for JG's favorite things
14. May Day flowers from JG

I guess it's nice we live close to the airport.
when I dropped JG off at the airport Friday, he left his phone in the car. so, I drove around twice trying to find him, gave up and headed for home. finally he called me and said he was waiting inside security, not at the drop-off zone like I thought. so, I drove all the way back, parked, and ran like the wind (really, I didn't know I was capable of wind-like-speeds) to the security line where a helpful employee grabbed the phone and handed it off to JG. I ran back to the car since if you're parked for less than ten minutes it's free and I'd much rather spend $2 on a Mountain Dew.
sometime during my frantic hour tour of the airport drop-off/pick-up loop I realize my house key was definitely not on my key ring. plus the gas light came on when we left the house and so on top of everything I was trying to convince myself that our car has the best gas mileage ever. I'm contemplating what to do about both of these things when JG calls to tell me he missed his flight. boo.
well, the new flights JG got ended up being better than his original itinerary plus he got to spend the night with my sister and her family. the car ran out of gas half a block from Maverik so I could just coast on in. and the house key was hanging from the front door when I got home. plus, I got to treat myself to a Mountain Dew. all in all, not the worst Friday afternoon.

we've moved.
I've spent the better part of two weeks trying to fit all our stuff into a teeny tiny basement apartment. when that didn't work, we ended up getting rid of two full carloads of stuff. and I mean full. since most of our stuff has been in storage the 18 months, it wasn't too hard deciding what should go though, in my haste, I did accidentally throw out the remote to my bose thingy and our only good dish towels. woops.
but JG and I are really happy with our place. it's cozy and on a quiet street and close to everything we could want. but I think the best part is that we're together all the time instead of that weekends only business.

a visit from the Easter Bunny
I was ambitious and decided to make a tie for JG's Easter basket. I figured, sure it looks hard and there's hand sewing involved but I can totally do that without getting mad or bleeding or ironing on the wrong weight of interfacing. except I couldn't. but, in the end I really really really liked the tie and even though I swore it was the first and last I actually am pretty certain I'll probably make another one sometime. like, maybe for every holiday?
these are what the Easter Bunny brought me.
doesn't that tie look good? I used this pattern on purlbee.

grapefruit mojitos
last week jg asked me what the drink was that we couldn't stop drinking on our honeymoon (mojitos) and it made me really, really want one. but I also wanted grapefruit juice. so, I made this:
1/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
1 cup fresh grapefruit juice
a little lime juice
a handful of mint leaves
sparkling water
make simple syrup by combining the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat until it turns clear. remove from heat and add the grapefruit juice and some. squeeze a little lime juice in the bottom of two tall glasses and toss in some mint leaves. using the back of a wooden spoon, smash the mint leaves around to get all the flavor out. pour in the grapefruit concoction and a little ice and fill the rest of the way with sparkling water. drink up.

seven years old
as of yesterday, this baby is seven years old. not quite as old as my college diploma. not nearly as old as my car. but still, that's a lot of years to be committed to a little piece of the internet. but I just looked at my post count and it's not even 1,000. so, my one blogging regret is that I didn't post more embarrassing stuff in like '05 + '06 that I could go back and read now.

give it to me straight
some things I've been up to:
1. tailoring shirts for JG. why can't someone make shirts for tall skinny guys?
2. eating the last clementines of the season.
3. enjoying the snowy/warm springtime weather.
4. straightening my hair cause jg's been bugging me to do it since we got married and I figured two years was enough procrastinating. that night we went to harmon's to get a redbox and a treat, which have you guys eaten the white chocolate pecan bread? holy cow, it's so good. anyway, JG headed to the bakery while I got the movie and when I went to meet him he looked right past me from three feet away. ha! it's weird to not be recognized by your husband.
PS Erin, I need your address cause you got picked for the floral garland! do you just want to message me on facebook?
